The Times looks at two of the drinks for your drinking pleasure at Grand Central outdoor cafe run by the Campbell Apartment. They are the Vanderbilt Punch ("tall, lightly sweetened refresher made with rum, Cointreau, cranberry and papaya juices, and a slice of orange") and Big Apple Cobbler ("bourbon and apple liqueur with ginger ale and a fresh apple garnish"). (Basically alcohol + something sweet = you can't smell the fumes from the buses in the area.) The drinks at $10 a pop are available till the end of October.

those drinks sound pretty vile. for some reason, i've never understood the fruity/multi-alcohol drink (sex on the beach, mai tai, etc.) i guess at 10 bucks a pop, you are getting bang for your buck since i'm sure after just one you are ready to pass out or puke.
Having tried some of the Campbell Apartment's old fashioned cocktails, I'd have to say that they didn't seem that strong . . . and I could be completely off base but I think that the reason why they have so much sugar and stuff in them is that in olden days alcohol wasn't as mild/consistent as it is today. Just a guess.
