This is crazy: A homeless man assaulted and tried to rape a woman near the Third Street entrance of Prospect Park yesterday at noon. A police officer patroling the area chased and arrested the man. The Post says the woman, a fashion designer, had her faced very badly bruised and cut up after the man pounded her head into the ground. Jesus. Third Street. At noon! Newsday has detailed coverage.

The Times report said her jaw was broken.
Also said the the cop chased the assailant for "30 feet", which, as my wife pointed out, is more of a lunge than a chase.
My sister will be moved from her Park Slope apartment to an undisclosed bunker. This is crazy!
This makes me nervous...but it's also very atypical. The 3rd Street entrance is a tiny little path (only about 5 feet), about 3ft of which is minorly secluded. The rest is out in the open. The shrub filled section near West Drive is not a path. I know this because I enter the park via 3rd Street each time that I run. You know, the bottom line is that these things happen everywhere, no matter how safe a place is deemed. I think that the issue is more why Hogan was out after 18 convictions of rape, assault and resisting arrest.
As for the fact that it's Park Slope/Prospect Park-- things like this happen in Central Park all the time. That doesn't make it right, I know, but any heavily wooded area, despite large numbers of people, is going to welcome such problems.
Hmmm... homeless AND a repeated rapist? Remind me again why we're not allowed to euthanize?
oh yeah, the homeless definitely deserve to be euthanized.
Sorry, I meant "castrated."
