A government takeover of the the grid (aka nationalizing or socializing) would deprive individuals of the right to purchase power from whom they prefer. There would only be one power transmission company. If someone thought up a better or cheaper way to deliver power, you and I would not have the right to purchase that power b/c the occupying power (aka the federal government; before that it was Britain) would forbid the voluntary transaction. Schumer should stay out of my and your affairs. His only job, which he never does, is to protect our right to trade with whom we so choose. Schumer has it all backwards. -- As for the impact of nationalization, it would lead to major shortages. Just check out the impact on cancer patients of the nationalization of healthcare in New Zealand: people are dying. (http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2003/08/21/1061434986004.html) -- The last blackout occurred precisely b/c the government continues to interfere with private solutions. The government deregulated power production but not power transmission.

I was able to text message on AT&T. As long as there's some sort of messaging medium out there, I think I'm okay.
