Renee Zellweger as Bridget JonesRenee Zellweger has agreed to play Bridget Jones once again for the sequel, and she will indeed pack on the pounds: The Age reports that on top of her $15 million salary, Renee will get another $225,000 per kilo she adds to her weight. Gothamist has mixed opinions about this. We feel that her performance in Bridget Jones was brilliant, but since she's gone totally anorexic post-Bridget Jones, we're concerned that she'll starve herself so much after making the sequel that her kidneys will fall and she'll be walking around with an IV drip; we seriously think her body image has turned cuckoo after making BJD - her skinny is scary. We hope her new boyfriend, Jack White, will be a mensch and (a) stick with her while she gains the weight and (b) convince her that she doesn't need to lose all of it. It seemed that even Mya could have snapped Renee in two in Chicago.

That whole Renee-too-fat-for-Harper's-Bazaar thing.

The sequel to Bridget Jones' Diary, BJD: The Edge of Reason, does involve Bridget losing weight after languishing in a Thai prison...

what is wrong with you people? why is it so hard to see renee z has extreme willpower. she obviously works incredibly hard at what she does including working out and dieting which is about the hardest thing for anyone to do! she probabaly does not like it but she gets paid a lot for being an actress and that motivates her. are you all jealous? i can't believe all the slamming you did to her!

I think Renee looks good in any movie where she is wearing stockings. I love to see 'Bridget Jones's Diary'; esp. when she slides down the pole in the firehouse.

To all the women out there: MEN LIKE WHEN YOU WEAR PANTYHOSE

I thought her weight was revolting in Chicago. She did not look remotely attractive and it was really off putting trying to watch her. She does not look naturally thin...

well, kinda randomly happened accross this, but my take is, rennee looked fine thin, she looked fine 'normal' too. the media exagerates her weight gain, she is beautiful the way she is, with or without the added weight, as are all women dealing with the same thing. i agree that some women become too thin. the media pushes this image to the extreme, but 'normal' weight is a perfect balance. renee hit that mark, and should hopefully appreciate that, and not feel inclined to allow the media to push her to one extreme or another. her personality is what really stands out anyway.

No way, there isn't a need to be THAT skinny.

I hope she keeps the majority of the weight she gains on her. She looked pitifully thin in Chicago and actually scary. That other article says that she hates to gain the weight again because she'll have a hard time losing it. Do us and yourself a favor -- don't lose it! On Glamour's March edition, their are 2 extreme pics of her, one from 2002 and one fro Dec 2003. She looks much better in the most recent one. Could somebody please tell her that?

I love Renee in any movie she's in, and although I believe all the yo-yo dieting has got to be unhealthy, we have to understand her profession. I'm sure she doesn't love losing and gaining weight, but it's in her contract. It's a career choice for her. She does it so she can work!

hmm. don't think she's alcoholic. just too brainwashed by american media standards of beauty. think she looked gorgeous in briget jones and cannot wait to see her in the sequel sporting a sexy bodysize instead of looking like "an american stick insect" .. as they put it best in the first briget jones.

  • Jennifer

Renee looks like a pixie stick in Chicago. I haven't seen Down with Love, but the dresses look like they're hanging on her like they're on a coat rack.

Lucy, as a guy I don't like skinny girls. I would rather be with someone of normal weight or who is a little bit skinnier than I am.

  • Lucy

I'm 18, and I want to know for real--guys, do y'all really think that really skinny girls like that are attractive?

  • Erica

A diet of alcholoic beverages is what she probobly uses to lose the weight. I wouldn't doubt it.

i wonder what motivates renee z to want to gain and loose extreme amounts of weight. the only reason i can think of is she has an issue with food and body image, and most likely an eating disorder. i feel it is wrong for the press to focus on her weight for this very reason. it is sad

Greg, I was wondering if I was just too lazy to do the conversion, but now I realize my subconscious knew that you would break it down for us; thank you.

Yes, and jutting rib bones are really not hot. As a lesbian friend of mine likes to say, it's no fun if there's nothing to grab.

  • i enjoyed chicago apart from being forced to look at her goddamn ribs. that's hot? on what planet?

  • $225k/kg = about $100k/lb = about 62,940 pounds/pound.

This makes me think the US agent negotiated it, and the british publicist wrote the press release.

My living in Excel for the last couple of weeks finally pays off. (Or, I'm about as useless as a Jeopardy rerun, you decide.)
