Mmmmm....crabs--I haven't had any all summer-- I'll have to visit soon to indulge. Well, no matter where the best crab places in town are, I have to say that my favorite place to eat crabs in Baltimore is in the backyard of family/friends under the stars on a warm summer night with lots of ice cold beer! :) Jen, perhaps eebmore could give you an expert's eye view of Baltimore if you pop down for a visit...

Yeah, I love Sisqo, too, that tiny firebrand, doing his cartwheels and flips all the time.

Another Baltimore-based blogger here. Lived in Gotham for a number of years off and on, but back in Bmore, the burg of my birth, for the time being.

It's interesting. In NYC, I recall getting Maryland Fried Chicken; here in Charm City, one can find New York Fried Chicken for sale. I guess it's a case of the grass is always greener...

Gotta echo the shoutout for Bill's Terrace Inn and the Brewer's Art (microbeer heaven). Best crabcake: Faidley's at Lexington Market. Alonso's has the best and biggest burger in town. And cheers for the Daily Grind in Fells Point -- a coffee place, natch -- right across from the street from where the building used for Homicide's police station still stands.

Need another scribe for a Bawlmer-meets-Big-Apple blog?

I finally get to be the resident expert on a certain subject. Goodie.

I love corinne hammons idea. It would sort of be like the time Homicide and Law and Order merged their shows.

And Bridget, the links are great, they are all top notch good calls, with the exception of Obryckis. If they ever had a day, it is long gone. It's the worst place to gets crabs in town.

For the best hard shells, go to bill's terrace inn.

Thanks for the great suggestions, Bridget! Maybe a Gothamist road trip just for panda viewing at the National Zoo and crabs for dinner is in order...

I am a native "Baltimoron" who's been living in New York for 2 years now. (and it's nice to see some other natives in the comments, Corinne and eebmore!) Jen--I hope you get down to Baltimore for a visit soon. For when you do make it to "charm city" (a.k.a. "New York lite" as I've heard it refered to) Here are some of my faves:
1. Papermoon Diner http://www.charm.net/~diner/index.htm
2. Brewer's Art www.belgianbeer.com
3. Red Maple www.930redmaple.com
4. the Bicycle www.bicyclebistro.com
5. Obrycki's www.obryckis.com (for those crab-smashing urges!)
And to see the building used as the police station in "Homicide" it's in the neighborhood of Fells Point
PS--love "the Wire", though it only represents a certain side of a city that has alot to offer.

I too agree that The Wire rocks, and I'm happy to have gotten my parents hooked on it as well, though a bit annoyed that I need to then translate what happened because they can't follow the quick dialogue.

I'm a native Baltimorean and have been a New Yorker for nearly six years. Nothing prepared me better for living in NYC than growing up in Crab City, hon. Jen and eebmore should join forces for a Balmer-meets-Big-Apple blog (can I write it?).

The Wire rocks. HBO really is making it unnecessary for me to watch network TV. Which is fine by me.
