wishing everyone in the affected cities a speedy return of power. stay cool.

Hopefully, it will be just a big pain in the butt and a source of some weird stories.

everyone in the east village is rather calm. it is hot but as long as i can take periodic cool showers -- it's fine.

hmm, this has been going on for a few hours now. kinda sad :/

All the more reason to have that radio and flashlight with batteries on hand. And a jar of peanut butter.

Be safe, kids.

Actually, Gothamist Corporate's HQs have been operating out of Tampa and Chicago as well as LA. But I wish was there, in a way, although I'd be passed out drunk in order to numb the heat by now.

Great photo!

We set up a public moblog for this at textamerica, called (yes this is very creative) "The Blackout" at http://blackout.textamerica.com and there have been over 70 comments posted since 4:00 PM today (pacific) when we put the page online. Lots of attention. I used to live in Manhattan and truly hope people are OK through this.

just shows how dependent we are on a little thing called e-lectricity!!
