Trying to Get Queer in Queens

The Fab FiveThere was a Queer Eye for the Straight Guy casting call in Queens yesterday, and many straight guys showed up, hoping for the chance to get the Queer treatment. The show's casting director, Maura Tighe, told Newsday that "having an upcoming event to look forward to is the most important factor for a makeover candidate. The show is not just for guys who want some new clothes, furniture or interior decorating tips. We're looking for straight guys, both single and married, of all ages and backgrounds to help become more stylish, more cultured and more desirable straight men." The Daily News mentions a straight guy named Captain Caveman whom Newsday also noted. Obviously, he made himself look like the total Straight Guy ready for some Queer Eyes to reporters.

See how to get on the show and look at the questionnaire. And let's talk for a moment about John from the last episode. How cute was he? Hilton is suspicious that he has actorly-modeling aspirations, but who cares - he was hot. (But he need not speak.)

And in further proof of the Queering of America, Jay Leno will get made over by the Fab Five on August 14! Now, as hokey as Jay Leno is, that is certainly Must See TV (it will be an NBC special).

Can they do one on that Lisa chick? I've never seen a skirt that short paired with hooker boots.

I like the post above that describes the friend who was proposed to during the "curtain call for Sugar Babies." Sounds like a role for Toni Colette.

definitely not! some straight guys are just totally lost and recognize that they could use a makeover done by the fab five. these guys are good! also, a true metrosexual doesn't need a makeover. he would just peruse queer eye tips for ideas if he felt he was lacking in some areas.

re John B - he definitely looked like a model when he was in the polo store trying on clothes. wow. i wouldn't mind a follow-up because i didn't appreciate the armenian girlfriend so much.

  • John Stone

I just found out that John B. is the cousin (once removed) of a friend of a friend of mine. A brush with fame.

On the casting call, don't you think that any guy who shows up to request a makeover automatically puts himself in the metrosexual camp?

i think the jay leno thing can be explained by the fact that NBC owns Bravo.

I'm amazed that NBC is allowing a Jay Leno makeover. Are they showing gay-friendliness, or are they jumping on the high ratings bandwagon? I'll watch, just to see if they keep that grey patch in his dark hair (or is it dark patch in his grey hair?)

Ooh, we need a John B. followup. The romantic in me feels that the girlfriend did love him, spending two years in that crazy apartment with him. I loved Thom very much in that episode, also. "This is not minimalism. This is bleak. There's a big difference."

  • Love the Eye too

That John guy was really cute, but I just don't trust a guy that proposes in front of an audience. I think it shows a lack of confidence, putting the woman on the spot like that. I've known two girls that were proposed to that way, one in front of an audience at the curtain call for Sugar Babies and one at a minor league sporting event. Both felt pressured to say yes, but later had to back out of the engagement.

i think they need to take the show on the road, as i would love to see them re-do a dude and his trailer.
