Gothamist headed to the Blue Goose Cafe on Second Avenue and 6th Street for an afternoon snack with T, who, not so coincidentally, was our companion when we frequented owners Jack and Grace Lamb's other East Village venture, the wonderful Jewel Bako. With pastries from Payard, Ceci Cela, and Sullivan Street Bakery, the Blue Goose is as close to a sure thing a simple cafe can be, but the Lambs have added their elegant touch.
We were impressed with the decor - it was very polished and classy, especially for the East Village, where new retail stores tend to be shabby chic/thrown together in their design aesthetic. The lines are very clean, with sharp-striped wallpaper and crown molding (with dentil detail) as a modified chair-rail above the blue banquette. White lampshades hang over the counter that allows the treats to be showcased clearly. And a snappy orange bike with a basket sits near the counter - we can imagine Jack riding it.
Although this variation of the Snowball looked tempting, we shared the chocolate dipped-macaroon (delicious). Gothamist cannot wait to try the amuse-bouches and charcuterie plates.

Was that space formerly Michael & Zoe's (or one of it's many aliases)?
Next time try the ham and gruyere croissant, they
ll even heat it up. So very good. They could not be nicer in this cafe, it's around the corner from my apartment and though i'm only in there about once a week, Grace always has a very friendly hello like she recognizes me. I can see it becoming a real neighborhood fixture.
Not sure what the space was before, but Tania and I love Jack and Grace. Jack seems like a natural restaurateur and Grace is always so welcoming, too. They are beyond cute, I'd hate them if they weren't so cool and making sure we had nice places to eat.
Yes, it was Michael and Zoe's, and then another alias, previously. These new people might be good, but I miss the old fare, too! I live around the corner from there also.
