Newsweek has an early look at one of next year's most anticipated movies, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Directed by Alfonso Cuaron, this installment, according to Hermione portrayer Emma Watson, is the one where �all those lovely, lovely hormones start coming out.� Hmm. Newsweek also reports that Daniel Radcliffe is trying "to get a handle on Harry�s 'feelings of hopelessness'" by watching a lot of Francois Truffaut (�The 400 Blows�) and Vittorio De Sica (�The Bicycle Thief�). Plus Radcliffe's been listening to the Sex Pistols and what Newsweek calls "edgy new acts" like the Strokes and the Dandy Warhols, 'cause he's young and cool - he's not JUST Harry Potter! The Daily News also looks at Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, which opens next summer on June 4, 2004.

It's a totally shitty article. I can't believe that mainstream press continues to talk down to people. Like, I know they do it, but it's lame. Especially when it comes to movies - it's like it's only mainstream Hollywood - no room to encourage people to see other off-the-beaten track type things. Rehrehrehreh, a pet peeve.

I abhor the whole concept of Harry Potten and don't wish to comment on it.
But I would like to ask everyone -- why why why why is the word "edgy" used in 93.56% of all culture articles, and why would a band like the Strokes, which simply recycles three-decades old songs by the Velvet Underground be called "edgy"?
because the writer thinks that pronouncing things "edgy" in his article, he will thereby seem "cool" or, even better, "hip", because of this knowledge of "edgy" things. but this just goes to show how stupid, empty and pathetic mainstream journalism is--the strokes, edgy?? edgy like britney spheres is edgy, maybe. they've been mass-produced, music-industry-machine-made, product-placed, retro-remake pop tarts since the day some savvy AR flak scraped them off the NY pavement.
I think you're giving the journalist in question far too much credit for actually thinking about what he is writing. It's not pretentious journalism, it's lazy journalism. It's just the first word which springs to mind which vaguely gets the job done. Consider this: "edgy" aside, how on earth can the Dandy Warhols be considered "new"?

They still may be in their mid-early teens but I think popularity and professional acting has made them mature more quickly.
