Work Weighs

Weigh inTo add to white collar angst, CNN looks at how these days jobs are making people fatter: "For a growing number of deskbound employees, work means moving only fingers and lips for eight, ten, twelve hours a day." Also causing on-the-job weight gain: Missing meals then making up for it by overeating at night, on the job stress (leading to eating as well as smoking). Some companies are offering health classes, nutritionists, and healthy food in the fridge.

Gothamist also suggests the following work scenarios can add to your waistline:
- Leftovers from meetings
- Stealing away to Starbucks to gossip about coworkers or take that personal call
- Birthday/farewell/welcome/anniversary parties
- Watching focus groups where candy and cookies are plentiful

I suppose those cake and beer parties at my office aren't helping anybody.

Wait...does that mean I can sue my employer somewhere down the line?

Look into that! People constantly guilt their coworkers into going to various birthday parties. Why, just Monday I was forced to drink Champagne at 4PM for some sort of celebration. The nerve!

i have been telling people that work makes you fat! office job-type work, that is, but still, it's a sick phenomenon. when i took time off, i lost all sorts of weight, and now that i'm back behind a desk, my pants don't fit!

Back when I worked at Goldman we called it the "secretary spread."

The last time I took a work break at Starbucks I came back to discover that while I had been out my entire department had been terminated...and I had missed the meeting. That solved all my office-related eating problems but it caused all sorts of even worse at-home-all-day eating problems.
