Fashion Faux Pas

TohosGothamist may be too much of a fashion victim, but we rather be victimized than wear Tohos - the pantyhose that lets you wear thong sandals. Creater Karyn Cortani says, "Old ladies just love them. Apparently, they are great for bunions." Okay, fine, old ladies love them - just don't try to sell these to the 18-34 urban demographic and relating the product to old ladies isn't really going to bring in the hipsters, unless the hipsters are doing some uncool is cool thing but, really, this is beyond uncool, it's disturbing. THIS is more cameltoe than Cameltoe to Gothamist. Another Tohos page says, "Women who favor pumps which show toe cleavage will find TOHOS™ special toe allows for the most elegant toe cleavage ever, without going bare--sweaty--in pumps." Toe cleavage? Elegant? Sigh, Gothamist wonders how much that publicist was paid.

This website says sandals or very open-toed shoes look best without pantyhose.

Toho's are great looking!! I find naked legs and feet sickening! I love toho's they make legs and feet bearable to look at. I would date someone wearing Toho's in a heartbeat. I'm surprised that it has taken this long for the Japanese split toe to finally get to America. The pros of the split toe socks and shoes far outweigh the cons (fashion). I believe everyone should wear split toe footwear, such as the Nike Air Rift! Although, I know that no one else will agree with me and I will only receive negative replies.

What about Dresses and Skirts do you still not where nylons with sandals?

  • Carol

I think socks with sandals is a good look with long pants, as long as the socks and sandals are a dark color; and it looks better than white socks with sneakers or running shoes. Also, there is nothing more comfortable than socks with sandals.

Well there you have it. Erikka the Terrorist is willing to commit an act of hatred against all Canadians because one person expressed a desire to wear thong sandals but difficulty doing it with bare feet. And people wonder why America is hated by most of the rest of the world. Meanwhile thousands of people across the United States and the rest of the world have this same problem as minstrelboy. There are thousands of reasons why people wear pantyhose with thong sandal and just because you donÂ’t like the way it looks Erikka and the rest of you want to post your opinions all over the Internet and threaten harm to those who disagree with you. I noticed on the net Tohos pantyhose are going to be on QVC this spring, so there is a major company that believes in Tohos pantyhose. It is ok to have an opinion and it is ok to express it but to insult, belittle and threaten those who have a different opinion is wrong.

So that's where it comes from? Canada? Fuck it, I'm making an army of superfashionistas and we're invading Canada and blowing up your reserves of novelty socks and teva sandals.

  • minstrelboy

Maybe I'm a closet Canadian, but I have a hard time wearing sandals *without* socks of some kind - my skin gets pretty beat up without them. And no, I'm not going to carry around a few square feet of moleskin to patch things up. Ankle socks are up there with toaster ovens and allen wrenches - when you need then, nothing else will do.

This is hysterical!!! Reminds me of the tailored socks/stockings the Japanese wear with kimonos and thongs...

  • erikka

I'm gonna start carrying a squirtgun and squirt sock/sandal offenders with a colored liquid so they'll be forced to remove thier socks. They can thank me later.

I guess if you're going to make a fashion faux pas, you might as well go the whole hog.

  • karru

You're right, they always are the thick wool ones. Anyone know why?

  • erikka

Isn't toe clevage when you wear pumps and the *teeniest* bit of toe shows? If sweaty feet are an issue, Dr. Schol's makes a deoderant foot spray, or, in a pinch, you can use regular spray-on deoderant. I used to think that you had to wear socks but find that I can go without now. My question is when you see people wearing socks and tevas, they're never wearing think cotton socks--they've got on those boiled wool thick ones. Why?

  • toe cleavage is hot! those things are revolting.

  • Jen

I think Toho's should be a dating dealbreaker, boys (and lesbian girls).

I would never wear sandals as a dressed up look, but if I'm casual and want to wear a Teva type of sandal, I have to wear socks, or my feet reek. I'd rather look a little dorky in an ankle sock with a casual sandal, than gas everybody out on the mass transit system.

The sock/sandal combo is brutal. I can understand doing it at base camp after a long day of hiking, but if you're got concrete and steel as far as the eye can see, don't wear socks and sandals.

  • Karru

Guys (and girls) should never wear socks and sandals, regardless of the weather . . . though my Canadian friends seem to think it is the height of fashion.

  • Why does this give me an immediate flash to cameltoe?

  • erikka

First, those damn pantyhose that cut off at the ankle, now this. If it is warm enough to wear open toed shoes, you don't need to wear pantyhose (same goes for socks & sandals, boys).
