Movie Studios Flog and Now Blog

2003_7_foxsearch.jpgThe movie studios are adding blogging to their marketing repertoire: Fox Searchlight Pictures has started it's own blog, foxsearchlight.blogspot.com, to "join this online phenomena" plus innundate people with information about screenings, box office data, interviews, articles in which their releases are mentioned, etc., etc. Part of what's helpful in driving traffic to the blog is the fact that the releases Fox Searchlight has out there right now are actually good, like 28 Days Later and Bend It Like Beckham, and their upcoming films, frothy Merchant-Ivory Le Divorce, nihilistic teen girl movies Thirteen, and Jim Sheridan's long-awaited In America, are definitely intriguing. Also, worth checking out is Fox Searchlight's SearchLab which has Quicktime interviews with directors like Ridley Scott, Mark Romanek, Baz Luhrmann, and Kimberly Peirce. [Via Movie City News]

Zombies chase in 28 Days LaterWhile the online efforts to pimp their movies are laudable, Gothamist went to an early screening of 28 Days Later, where we, along with Peter Rojas of Gizmodo were unimpressed by the low energy street team handing out t-shirts and "The End is Fucking Nigh" pins listlessly. Guerilla and viral don't mean saying "Anyone want a shirt?" - it means running to the audience member and yanking the shirt over their head and forcing them to wear the extra-large t-shirt while shouting "THE END IS FUCKING NIGH!" just like R. Lee Ermey in Full Metal Jacket. Or chasing us around the theater.

Gothamist's favorite Fox Searchlight film: The Ice Storm, based on Rick Moody's novel, his best thus far.

When I linked to the Bend It Like Beckham website, I got an email from their webmaster thanking me. Now that's good online marketing.

If you liked "The Ice Storm" so much, maybe throw a Gothamist car-key party?

HEY! I linked to Bend It Like Beckham here and nary an email! God, no respect at all. I'm tempted to take this post off...

But Aaron, did you see that suggestion from Brian - an idea for our next Happy Hour?

Brian's domain name is drinkydrink.com, which leads me to believe that he's well-qualified to comment on the next Happy Hour. I like! Let's run with it. Vet it through our people.

Okay, and just so you know, this is what my keys look like.

Or you could keep your keys in the freezer right before you put them in the fishbowl, just like in they do in those lotto powerball scams.

for some reason, film reviewers are afraid to say that of all the crap that came out this summer '28 days' kicked all their asses and is the best film most refreshing film to come in the u.s. this summer. I think because it was shot in digital they're being snobs. the film rocked, stop hating on dv...!
