What Michael Bay And Rats Have In Common

2003_7_michaelbay.jpg Michael Bay, one of the many part-time banes of Gothamist's existence, brilliant auteur he is, has a scene in Bad Boys II involved rats. As he recounts telling Columbia Pictures president Amy Pascal to the Hollywood Reporter, "And I was like, 'Amy, trust me, it's going to be funny. I found where I can train rats to f--- for $3,500!" Gothamist is restraining itself from cracking a joke about how these rats are more expensive than the hookers Bay probably... oh, that's not restraint.

2003_7_peterhorton.jpgAnyway, Michael Bay, good commercial director, annoying feature director. When we see pictures of him, we marvel at his resemblance to Peter Horton, of thirtysomething fame, and think about Dennis Miller's Weekend Update on the death of Gary, where he clearly relishes the fact that golden haired, ladybait Gary died. If only...

Hold on, wait a minute. I just happen to be surfing around looking for info on one of the best directors of today and my personal inspiration for what I have decided to do with my life and I stumble across this crap. Folks bashing Bay for whatever reason, I guess because not every single one of his movies was in the top 10 movies of all time list or something. I am just curious...what do you people look for in a movie that Bay does not include? If you're watching his flicks at all you're obviously looking for some action, which is his forte. Why all the disdain for him? What is so horrible about him and his work that I look on this site and see nothing but gripes? People complaining because they saw him in Prague with a hooker...Who cares!?! He's human, if thats what he wants to do with his money, let him! Hey, if there is more that I need to know about him, please, let me know but from where I stand, most of you are WAYYYYYY off on your opinions of Bay, his work, anyway.

I had no idea he did The Rock, not a bad movie at all. All I can think of is how lame Pearl Harbor was.

  • no-no

Rumor has it he's the illegitimate son of Frankenheimer. And The Rock IS a good movie!

  • he went to wesleyan AND he produced the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre, that's not an accomplishment?

he also directed the DiVinyls video, right?

  • "The Rock" was surprisingly entertaining. I'd go so far as to call it a thoroughly enjoyable movie. Not that it clears his name for the rest of the prattle he's responsible for, but "The Rock" really is a good movie.

I bumped into Bay waltzing around with a gigantic blonde Czech hooker in the lobby at the Four Seasons in Prague.

I believe he and Bruckheimer were on a publicity tour for "Pearl Harbor."

I didn't see any rats but them.
