Move Over, K-9 - There's a Fish Sniffing Cat

Sniffer Cat; Photo - AFPA fish sniffing cat are being used to combat smuggling - not the smuggling of artifacts from a Tsar or young Russian girls, but the smuggling of endangered fish. According to CNN, the Stavropol police adopted a cat who has quickly become known for his fish-sniffing prowess and now goes on spot checks of trucks with officers. One of the fish police are looking for is Caspian Sea Sturgeon, which produces caviar. The cat, naturally, has been fed the endangered fish.

Gothamist thinks we could train a fish-sniffing cat, but not a drug-sniffing dog. But you can buy drug-sniffing dogs.

Have some caviar tonight.

It does seem like a fake cat. It seems very bizarre looking overall. Sourpuss expression.

Nice stuffed cat. Look at the ears. Very nicely done, tho. Steiff, maybe?

  • Something about the cat's photo makes him look, well, fake. His fur, it looks so wooly.
