Dining Outside of Grand Central

2003_7_grandcentral.jpgGrand Central Terminal will turn an unused taxi stand into an area for al fresco dining. According to Newsday, "three restaurants in the station will offer al-fresco service in this block-long crescent stretching along Vanderbilt Avenue between 43rd and 44th streets under a Park Avenue overpass." Cipriani Dolci, Michael Jordan's Steakhouse, and Campbell Apartment will be involved, and they are getting "chairs, special tables with linen tablecloths, candles" for the outdoor area.

While there's excitement about the idea of outdoor idea at Grand Central, Gothamist wonders how great it really is to be near all that traffic and bus exhaust. And it's noisy. We guess that's the best Grand Central can do, but we prefer a nice back courtyard downtown over the hustle-and-bustle of Midtown any day.

I work across the street from grand central, in th Lincoln Building. I see this old taxi stand every day, its an OVERPASS that means cars travel across this thing all day. I dont know about any one else but I dont want to eat under an active bridge.
