Blame Canada?

Canada is excited; Photo - APCanada will be hosting the 2010 Winter Olympics, with the beautfiul western city of Vancouver beating Pyeongchang, Korea, and Salzburg, Austria. Canada's good news may mean that New York's chances of hosting the 2012 Summer Olympics are decreased, since the IOC probably wants to spread the wealth around the world.

Gothamist would love for the city to benefit from the revenue and goodwill of the Olympics, but the idea of having the Olympics in New York seems crazy, with the amount of additional cars and people in the city. Much like the was the proposed Westside Jets Stadium seems great in theory but when you actually think about it, it's scary.

I'm selfish and I like being able to walk on the sidewalk without being pummeled by throngs of people. I know, I know, I live in NY. But people, please, move it along.

Yeah, as if NYC isn't enough of a terrorist target already.

  • I second j's sentiments, though if we could use the tourists as targets for the archery, I'd feel a little better.

Great news! Anything that could possibly help lure the Olympics away from NYC is positive. The last thing we need is the city to be filled with the chaos and crowds of additional tourists here to watch shot putting and archery.
