Smelling Bleecker Street

Linden tree on Bleecker StreetMagnolia Bakery

Last night was made for wandering around Greenwich Village to partake in two olfactory wonders of the world: The melony-floral-honey scent of blooming linden trees and the hypnotic smell of Magnolia Bakery's rich buttercream frosting. Of course, Gothamist had to partake in a cupcake (pink frosting, yellow cake; the yellow cake is moister than the chocolate).

Justin, you are always in my heart. But realize that I didn't want to belittle your foolish chocolate cake ways.

  • Magnolia Magnolia Magnolia! I love their cupcakes! I had to get over my brief addiction to them though - not because they are probably full of sugar and fat and bad things, but because I live nowhere near Magnolia and am never just "in the neighborhood" so was finding myself trekking way across town just for some cupcake goodness. Yum! I prefer the yellow cake but it's really all about the frosting.

Justin, who often attends these things but never seems to get mentioned, had one of the chocolate cupcakes. He felt that the pink-frosted cupcakes, the only ones left of the yellow cake variety, threatened his masculinity. The chocolate cake was a little dry, but it was more than made up for by the luscious buttercream frosting, which, chocolate-flavored, is just to die for. Wait, what was that about masculinity again?
