Ferry Precaution Measures

Staten Island FerryThe Staten Island Ferry may be under higher security measures like screening and frisking. The Coast Guard is evaluating the situation to determine whether or not bomb sniffing dogs and the like will be needed. Gothamist understands the need for more precautions, but there's always been something very romantic about being able to hop onto the Staten Island Ferry and see lower Manhattan during a fun (and cost-effective) date.

In related news, Justin was delayed for over an hour on the train this morning by what a "police investigation" at the Canal Street station on the 1/9 train. As this is his work station he checked it out upon arrival. The whole area was swarming with Police, Firefighters, and EMS workers. Unfortunately, Justin doesn't carry a camera, so he couldn't take pictures of the scene. But he did conduct this brief interview with an EMS worker:

JC: "Excuse me sir, do you know what happened here?"

    EMS: "Nothing"

    JC: "Nothing?"

EMS: "Nothing, and when you see it on the news later, that's what they'll say."

JC: "So I just spent an hour on the train for nothing?"

    EMS: "Yep"

JC: "Hm. Are those guys in HazMat suits over there? Um. On second thought, 'nothing' sounds pretty good. Keep up the good work."
