I have a friend in the Magnetic Fields who tells me that the Stephen / Ang Lee thing fell through, but that they are working on making a stage version of the awesome album. It's form is still in the works, but it seems like a great idea to me!

I think--I think--Mr. Merritt has been writing a musical with Daniel Handler for the last, oh, four-odd years. I never heard of it being a musicalized 69 Love Songs (wasn't the full performance of the set at Lincoln Center supposed to be the songs' final airing?)--although I do feel like it was an adaptation of something. 10 points for a spotty memory.

interested to see what ang will do with the superhero/comic book genre. he's applied--fairly successfully, i think--his directorial talents to a number of different kinds of films, which isn't something one sees very much. one of the few directors around with breadth, and one who doesn't seem to suffer from an auteur complex.
