Is it an only-in-New-York thing when a ">fifth grade graduation turns into a mess where the crowd needs to be pepper sprayed? Yesterday, the auditorium at Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn was overcrowded for P.S. 92's graduation and guests were Maced while security guards were trying to contain the room. The Daily News quotes "crestfallen" 11 year-old Antoinette Walker, "I've never graduated before. I thought it was going to be the best day of my life."
A Medgar Evers spokeperson told the Post, "There was pushing and shoving, and they stormed the doors like the Bastille." It's unclear what caused the overcrowding, CUNY is blaming the parents/school for inviting too many people (unruly people at that), the school is saying guards let too many people.

Must just be me, but who the hell would ever want to go, participate in, an ELEMENTARY school graduation in the first place?!?!? Such a vapid exercise didn't exist back (long ago) when I 'graduated' elementary school.
I think they're attending this one because, sadly, they don't expect their kids will stick with the whole "schooling" thing through junior high.
