It heartened Gothamist to see the list of charities that Mayor Bloomberg donates to throughout the year. The Times reported that while his personal wealth decreased (the stock market) last year, he contributed more to "scores of cultural, educational and religious institutions." Well, he is the 29th richest American.
Bloomberg donated to Thirteen-WNET, the local PBS station, this past year, which made us like him a little more. We hope that Claire Dederer's feature on the beauty of Reading Rainbow in the Times this weekend reminds people how important and instrumental public television can be for children.

the mayor also donated to the big apple circus- which seems nice, because everyone loves the circus, but when you think about it, it's probably not that much for the elephants.
Elephants poop a lot--volume and frequency. Can't be cheap to get rid of all that stuff.
