Getting Your Mack On

2003_6_kiss.jpgThe Post takes it upon itself to help out New Yorkers with make-out worthy bars for that second date, you know, when "dinner at your apartment is way too intimate to even consider." They give "four lips" to Bar d'O, Temple Bar, Ocean's 21 and Lakeside Lounge (yeah, when you're seeing your friend's band play), as well mention other bars to get your mack on. But, surely, there are others still unmentioned...

Lockhart Steele posed this query a while back, and now Gothamist weighs in with a few other suggestions (these are places to smooch, possibly while drunk or getting there...for romance, you go to the St. Regis or Thom at the beginning of the evening). We've noticed some patterns - places that are subterranean or high up automatically seem more romantic. But we still need your thoughts on other good places, like ones in the outer boroughs, the hot places for gays (we know about the hook-up places, but not the make-out ones), etc.

Angel Share - Romantic and removed.

Decibel - Dank basement, loud music, delicious sake.

Happy Ending - Downstairs, out of the fray.

Milk & Honey - Intimate and cozy - one downside is being two of only a few patrons, but the drinks are more than enough to negate that.

Double Happiness - Dark with twisting, hidden corners.

Von - Not in the front bar, but in the second room.

APT - If you're in a removed area, or downstairs.

but you have forgotten:
- thom bar (2nd floor- empty in the early evening)
- good world (also empty in the afternoon- good for a snog in the backyard)

j0sh will be along later to suggest that hot sex spot called the korova milk bar- but don't believe him.

Please PLEASE! tell me those lips are yours, Jen.

Babies, I hate to disappoint, that lip print is not mine, though it's not for lack of trying - I was having some scanner problems. But maybe, just maybe, you'll get to check my lips out next week at the happy hour.

There's a bar, the name of which escapes me and probably never knew, located somewhere between 2nd ave and union square in the teens. i went there with my 21 year old boyfriend when i was the ripe old age of 18 and after getting our drinks, we started taking advantage of the dim lighting and sparse population. i suppose we mildly noticed a flash, but it wasn't until we came up for air a while later that we noticed a polaroid sitting next to us, with "snog of the week" written below it! guess we weren't the first to take advantage of the environment....

Dahl, do you mean the Belmont lounge? Plush couches and some velvet-curtained private tables in the back room make it a perfect spot.

I don't necessarily have anything to add to the places TO make out, save for places perhaps not to get overly amourous:

Serena (next to Chelsea Hotel)

Ace Bar

My girlfriend and I have gotten kicked out of both of these for making out. Even though, I know, I know, as someone put it the other night "straight guys love that." Not the ones working at those bars apparently...

But thanks for all the good tips - I've been meaning to check out Angel's Share, which I've always thought was just that Japanese restaurant. I like Bouche Bar even though it's tiny, they don't seem to mind some making out going on. And Solas on 9th bet. 2nd and 3rd is pretty good too if you want to make out without causing any trouble.

bar d'o *is* a gay spot - at least on monday nights, when the hip hop ladies are in full and delicious effect.
