40 West 67th Street Co-op Owner Smackdown

David PullmanIt's not a good time for David Pullman. His creation, the David Bowie Bond, faces a downgrade. And he was finally kicked out of his apartment at 40 West 67th Street, after a protracted fight with his neighbors and co-op board. The Times examines what happened at the Upper West Side prewar: Pullman felt his neighbors were too noisy and from that, it seems Pullman freaked out. He accused them of running an illegal book binding business, being anti-Semitists, playing music too loudly, and physically assaulting him. Gothamist loves this line: "That his alleged attacker was nearly 30 years his elder is irrelevant, Mr. Pullman said; Sean Connery, he said, is in his 70's."

The Observer had a piece about the Pullman affair practically exactly one year ago, as he hoped the decision to kick him out would be in Court of Appeals limbo. But the Court of Appeal ruled last month that he must leave.

David Pullman was called an innovator by Time, but Gothamist is just hoping he doesn't move into our building. Final note, just because Gothamist wears black, it doesn't mean we're fans of Adolf Hitler. We just think it's slimming.

also, in reference to one of the posts above, David Pullman is not 6'3. Did he tell you that??? He can't be more than 5'8 or 5'9, and he is KING of the Napoleon complex!!! He is a runner, that is true. Of course, I hardly believe that some old guy "assaulted" him in any way, shape, or form (although, I would applaud anyone who assaulted him in any way, shape or form), but I do know that David is a short man.

I would like to let you know first hand that David Pullman is nothing but a fraud and a complete psychopath. Unfortunately, I worked for him during most of his so-called deal making and his self aggrandizing crusade for press coverage.

He lies and believes his own lies. He thinks he is this superman, when in reality, he is a small minded, braindead prick who cannot string a sentence together without someone rewriting it for him from start to finish (and I should know).

On several, and I mean several occasions I watched him degrade and belittle people who had no clue what was going on, whether it was a delivery boy or someone fixing the closet door.

He has nothing better to do than scream at people and ask, "Don't you know who I am???? DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHO YOU ARE TALKING TO?????" It was horrifying and embarrassing. I found myself constantly apologizing to people on the receiving end of his venom, even though being an employee, I received far more and far worse than anyone else could have imagined. He also likes for his employees to spend their time doing such life changing things as calling Verizon and Con Edison and telling them that David Pullman should get a special "low rate" because he is David Pullman. Talk about a laugh! You can imagine the responses we got on those calls.

I can attest to the fact that he purchased all of his gold/platinum records himself, which had ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with any of the artists he did business with. They don't even know about it! He used a company in California to create these fictitious "gold records".

Everyone in the music business knows that a gold record is rewarded to someone as a gesture FROM THE ARTIST based on the amount of records sold. His trophies have absolutely nothing to do with a) the artists, b) the labels, or c) the amount of records he helped to sell. It was SUCH a gigantic joke, him thinking that if he created this illusion that people would buy into it. I guess some people really have no clue.

Another point you should know about is the Pullman crest he adopted! He is not related to George Pullman. We found that crest in an ad in a trade magazine, and it was from a photograph taken by a French photographer named Thierry something (I would have to look up the specifics, as I have for the most part tried to block David Pullman and all of the bad memories of dealing with him out of my life!). Anyway, once we located this photographer's agent, David made us call/stalk them CONSTANTLY, begging them for the photograph. Of course, they wanted to charge David for the rights to use it, and as he does when it comes to actually paying anyone, he balked. He had a graphic designer who was on staff at Billboard magazine at the time(who also despised David and could tell you stories!) scan and retouch the photo for him, so he could use it and claim it as his own "family crest, which he does~!~HA!

He also copied all of Charles Koppleman's group's website and put it on his own. He got an email from someone over there who asked how someone like David who claimed to have "invented" all of these ideas, found himself copying text and diagrams straight from their website! They thought it was hilarious, and so did the rest of us in our office....

I could just go ON AND ON. He is such a horrible, disgusting excuse for a human being. I have never in my life met such a satanic individual.

I still have nightmares that I work for him.

Anyway, you get the picture, and believe me, that is only skimming the surface. I just wanted you to know that the fact that the co-op board threw him out was refreshing to say the least! I understand where they are coming from, and nobody could have possibly deserved it more. This guy's pathetic antics are legendary!

  • Bowie Bond NOT a Pullman Innovation,

    Holds New York Supreme Court

David Pullman, who has all along been claiming as the innovator of the bonds secured on David Bowie's music royalty, called Bowie Bonds, suffered a major setback when the New York Supreme Court held that it was the Rascoff/Zysblat Organization which actually developed the product and Pullman's erstwhile employer was only employed as a marketing agent for the bond. Pullman claimed, among other things, that he and not Bowie business managers R.Z.O. created the concept of the Bowie Bond, and only he had the rights to utilize trade secrets derived from the transaction. In her ruling, New York State Supreme Court Justice Beatrice Shainswit stated, "Neither the Pullman Group nor Pullman developed, or ever owned this alleged intellectual property." Notwithstanding Pullman's relentless advertising as creator of the bonds, he was unable to show any evidence to support his claims. Documents presented clearly established that R.Z.O. were the creators of the Bowie Bond concept. R.Z.O. then retained Pullman's employer Gruntal & Co (and later Fahnestock & Co.) to act as placement agent for this, first ever, securitization.

In response to other documents presented to the Court, Justice Shainswit further states that "Pullman concedes that his role...was as an employee hired to work on structured assets." She continues, "The Complaint is dismissed in it's entirety against all defendants" and the Court, "finds the ... claims to be without merit."

This loss to Pullman comes on the heels of the United States Patent and Trademark Office's refusal to allow Pullman use of or representation that the "Bowie Bond" mark is a trademark of his or of The Pullman Group.

  • Pullman Isaliar

I worked for David Pullman in the early 90s - and he is even more horrible than these articles suggest. I have witnessed numerous occasions where he pinched women's behinds, and made sleazy remarks, always with women that were dependent upon him for their jobs. He on several occasions had sex in his office during business hours with various women. All of his claims of his various achievements are lies -- he never went to Wharton -- he took a summer course there! He didn't invent the Bowie Bond (for which he was in Time Magazine) he lied and said he did! Evidence for this and other frauds he's perpetrated are all over the web. He's a pathological liar.

Pullman's favorite way of dealing with people who attempt to set the records straight about who he is and what he has done are immediately slammed with defamation lawsuits. This co-op story is only one of many, many incidents in which Pullman has shown himself to be the repellent reptile that he is.

    He deserves whatever he gets.
