Just like to mention that the 17th Street exit is no longer accessible...there's a new fence around it. So, if you're going to get on the High Line @ 33rd, be prepared to return there to exit.

here's what you want to do- and don't blame me if the FBI arrests you or something. the rails come down to grade behind the truck yard just north of the rail yard on 34th street and the water. the yard is open, so you can just walk through, climb up on the rails, and start walking. you'll walk for awhile and then come to the first of many steel walls that were put up to keep people out. luckily, they all have holes- you'll have to crawl so don't wear anything too nice. You can explore as far south as Gansevort street- but the last three or four blocks are tougher. The big thing to see is the pass-through pictured above- it's at 15th street. Once you are done, get back by climbing down the crumbling steps near 17th street- you might miss them but they are there. the last three or four flights are missing, but you can climb on the pipes. Then you are done. Go get drinks at Park or lunch at Florent.

i think whatever they do with the highline, it should connect to the railroad that was once there- so if there is a park, there could be a cute little tram that goes through it or something.
