Cell Phone Users' Rights

Senator SchumerSenator Charles Schumeris making cell phone users' rights his "appealing to the cell-phone contigency" issue, and he says that many NY area mobile service providers have hidden fees. The Cell Phone Users Bill of Rights was unveiled in February, with issues like being able to keep your phone number when you switch providers and better cell phone quality (like access to 911).

The Mercury News' Mike Landberg agrees with the premise of the bill and goes through it clearly.

The only two NY area providers not to tack on hidden fees: T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless.

beyond defense and rebuilding our relationship with the french, cell phone number portability is the most important issue facing our country today. it cannot be overstated.

number portability will be great but the wireless companies will charge people a cancellation fee (~$150) when they try to switch services. even if it happens, the wireless companies won't make it easy.
