The Spirit of '55

Grayline busAccording to the Times today, the Gray Line tourbus company will be running a route around the borough of Brooklyn. The tour will run two hours, covering the area from Downtown to the Brooklyn Museum of Art and Brooklyn Botanic Gardens in Prospect Heights. The tickets cost $35, and are available from their website.

Gothamist always tries to promote Brooklyn as a tourist destination when we meet out-of-towners. You wouldn't think it would be a tough sell when "as many as one in four Americans can trace their roots to Brooklyn". Even natives could stand to be reminded about some of the upcoming cultural events in Brooklyn, like the Welcome Back to Brooklyn Festival and the Celebrate Brooklyn Performing Arts Festival.

So what else would be on our off-brand tour of Brooklyn? I would want a stop at Christy's Jamaican Bakery on Flatbush. Breakfast at Tom's Diner.

35 bucks!!! Christ. For that I'll give you a tour, a bagel and an old West Indian Day Parade T-shirt. Someone should negotiate with a Flatbush Ave. gypsy van taxi driver- I bet we could negotiate an "alternative" tour of bklyn for only $20. Sights could include such favorites as: Mini's Roti Shack on Flatbush, the wonderfully scenic Ebets Field Housing Projects and other classic bklyn spots.
