Movie Compromises

T3Legally Blonde 2

The Post turns the summer movie season into a battle of the sexes, or at least a dilemma for couples, with counterprogramming of Terminator 3 and Legally Blonde 2 one weekend, The Hulk vs Alex and Emma another. A little of the article, which makes Gothamist a bit batty:

"If it's the first or second date, go with the chick flick," urges John Fate, co-author of "Make Every Girl Want You." "You want to convey to her that you're not like all the other guys out there."

The principle works both ways: When a girl opts to see an action movie, "guys love it," says Fate. "My male friends are all jealous that my girlfriend likes to watch sports and I don't have to get into a fight with her about it."

And if you're further along in your relationship, try the C word (no, not that one) - compromise.

"Make a deal," says Carolyn Bushong, author of "Bring Back the Man You Fell in Love With." "If we see 'T3' tonight, next weekend we'll see 'Legally Blonde.' Or if we see 'T3,' I'll make you dinner - or I'll clean the bathroom."

Or you can see a crappy movie (Gothamist is talking about your movie, Rob Reiner) together and just make out. Just a thought.

Jen, you keep me going! There's nothing better when you're slogging away at three in the morning, up against a deadline, and your little RSS-reading thingy tells you that Gothamist has been updated for the second time that night! Thank you, Jen: I owe you a drink! (BTW, girls love the Matrix.)

Thanks, Felix, I'm here for everyone in Asian timezones as well as New Yorkers burning the midnight-early morning oil.

And I'll be seeing T3 and The Hulk first.

I think I did my good deed for the weekend by convincing a girl who had never seen "The Matrix" because she didn't dig action movies that it was awesome and well worth the view. Somehow, though, my love of sports and action movies hasn't seemed to get me anywhere....
