The Post has suggestions for day trips, via the train, like going to Fire Island or Foxwoods, and Gothamist appreciates them, as we don't have cars nor the ability to be too far from high-speed Internet access for too long. (Wi-fi is not everywhere, folks.) We'd also like to suggest taking NJ Transit to Spring Lake, which has a lovely beach.

I'll have you know I'm reselling WiFi satellite coverage on Fire Island. Shh! Don't tell!
gothamist's top five ideas for getting out of town:
1. dinner on city island
2. art trip to dia and storm king upstate
3. dinner out in montauk- drive home before i-bankers ruin the weekend
4. go swimming in long beach- less hipsters than at fire island, less rednecks than at jones beach
5. woodstock, woodstock, woodstock
I am originally from New Paltz, which is a cute college town a bit south of woodstock--it's like woodstock without the phoniness. Um, and there are lots of apples there in the fall. It's worth a day trip. And as much as I hate to admit it, West Point is pretty entertaining too, for people watching if nothing else. Isn't the opening for Dia tomorrow?
Is Spring Lake next to Sea Girt? I think I've been there and had the not so enjoyable experience of waiting for an hour for the train back to the city on a Sunday last summer, so plan ahead an leave plenty of time to get to the station!
