Seattle has completed day one of the terrorism readiness drill, TopOff. According to Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels, the exercise is for regional and national agencies to see where strengths and weaknesses lie. "When a disaster occurs, people do not call the White House. They call 911." Terror drills are also being held in Chicago.
TopOff has a day by day schedule, which makes Gothamist roll its eyes. Yes, it's great to make sure authorities are ready, but this is so staged. We wonder how much preparation will help when faced with catastrophe.
New York has its "heightened state of alert" force: Operation Atlas.
