Lyric Benson and Bob Ambrosino - The Relationship

Bob Ambrosino and Lyric Benson; Photo - NYTThe New York Times Styles section tries to deconstruct Lyric Benson and Robert Ambrosino's relationship, mainly focusing on the differences that emerged in the past year: Benson getting more acting work, her job as hostess at Balthazar, just being closer to her goal of success, while Ambrosino is painted as a strange, drifting figure, though a "king of New Haven," a little fish in the New York City pond.

The Times includes many casual pictures of Benson, playing up the youth and beauty angle, as the Styles section would.

Gothamist on the crime, her near-fame, and her memorial.

  • I am a distant relative of Bobby. My name is Rob Ambrosino. I believe that Bobby and Lyric may have stopped in at my gig at "The Back Fence" in the village last year on July 1st, 2002 around 8:30 p.m. If I am not mistaken, I can tell you this...these two were very enthusiastic, had a great time and helped me get the crowd going early in the evening. While performing and watching the audience, I felt that these two were totally in love with each other. In fact, it was a pleasure to play for them. My relatives in Mayfield were shocked because this tragedy does not fit...but it happened and we can't change that. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Benson family as well as the Ambrosino family, my family in upstate, N.Y.

I was friends with both Bobby and Lyric. All I can say is that Bobby loved Lyric and Lyric loved Bobby. It is a terrible tragedy and my lifr will never be the same without them.
