The Fat of the Land

benjerry1_1721_26289.gifIt looks to be a good week for poverty-stricken ice cream afficianados. Today is Free Cone Day at Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shops. Baskin-Robbins is responding with Free Scoop Night tomorrow evening from 6 to 10 PM. Having done the Ben & Jerry's thing before, I can tell you that you're likely to burn off all those calories waiting impatiently in line for your free grub. However, between those of us here at Gothamist who eat no fat, those who eat no lean and those who claim to be lactose intolerant, this is probably one event we're skipping.

I wussed out and got Peanut Butter Cup. I usually try and get adventurous with my free cone, but they didn't have Uncanny Cashew at the shop I was at. Don't think I'll be stopping by BR for some more, partly because I don't know where there is a shop near my work or home, partly because I don't really care for their ice cream (their cakes, on the otherhand...yum!) and partly because I think I need to spend a couple hours at the gym working off the B&J.

Thank you, Dahl. So what flavour did you get? How was it? What flavours would you have gotten had you gone back? Will you be going to B&R tonight for comparison? Anyone else?

In Hong Kong, not only are there fake name brands like fake Prada, fake Louis Vitton, there're also restaurants claiming to serve Ben and Jerry ice cream but giving you "Dairy Farm" (similar to cheap store brand). One taste and I knew...first time that I left my ice cream unfinished.

  • I did make it to Ben and Jerry's today and enjoyed my free cone immensely! There was no line when I went on my lunch break, but I didn't have enough time to go twice, and while I almost went after work, I ran out of time and had to settle with one.

Jake, they do have sorbet for those lactose intolerant people and it is quite good.

So is anyone out there going to try to get some free ice cream today? Speak up and tell us all about it.

i'd like to sue ben and jerry's for not offering lactose free ice cream- it's a disability rights issue

In the day, I had been known to get my one free cone, eat it, and get back in line for another. However, I'm in Tampa today, eating salted nuts in a dark room.
