Name Game

NY Post follows up the birth of Carys Zeta Douglas with wondering about the insane names that celebrities give their children. They offer up:

Jett Travolta (John Travolta and Kelly Preston), Speck Wildhorse (John Mellencamp), Diezel and Denim (Toni Braxton), Casper (Claudia Schiffer), Romeo and Brooklyn (David and Victoria Beckham), Hopper (Sean Penn), Salome (Alex Kingston), Sailor (Christie Brinkley), Zephyr and Lyric (Robby Benson), Aurelius (Elle MacPherson), Rumer, Scout and Tallulah Belle (Demi Moore and Bruce Willis)

Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick named their kid James. How utterly sane.

Of course there's a website devoted to this: The Institute for Naming Children Humanely. They say "A child's name is the most important label he or she will ever receive. It will stay with the child throughout their whole lives. Parents who choose names poorly create misleading labels for their children. These labels can cause their children to be mocked, stereotyped, or ostracized. Mocked, stereotyped, and ostracized children grow to become demented adults."

Gothamist agrees and has been fascinated with names. One important name is deemed acceptable, but INCH fails to delve into other issues. The problem is that people will find a way to mangle names no matter what...and what about the last name? Kids are cruel and will taunt with whatever is at their disposal, so last names are fair game as well as out of parents' control. Most of the times.
