NY vs. LA: Overblown?

The Times proposes that New York and Los Angeles are more alike than the cities and its resident would think. Obviously, this is Howell Raines' attempt to neutralize NY Times-LA Times rivalry. Gothamist's attitude is until you have crazy mayors the way we do, there's no comparison. But there's no reason NOT to love the Tupac-Dr. Dre song, "California Love"...
