Leslie Cheung

Leslie CheungLeslie Cheung, renowned Canto pop singer and actor, jumped to his death in Hong Kong. It's unclear why, but he did have a suicide letter. He starred in John Woo's A Better Tomorrow as well as Chen Kaige's Farewell My Concubine and Wong Kar-Wai's Happy Together.

Roger Ebert praised Cheung's performance in Farewell, My Concubine: "Leslie Cheung's concubine is never less than convincing, and his private life - he is essentially raised by the opera as a homosexual whether or not he consents - contains labyrinthine emotional currents."

Gratitude and treachery are merely the two extremities of the same procession.

You have seen all of it that is worth staying for when the band and the gaudy

    officials have gone by.

  • if there ever was a reason for two men to fall in love, it was leslie cheung.

now it's july 15. everyone seems to have left, and it's dark and quiet here. and i just found out.

    thanks jen, i suppose.

in a sense, i would have preferred not to know.

i'm not usually upset by the death of celebrities, but this is special. and at the same, it isn't. it's always depressing to see such talent, youth and beauty leave this world.

i can't believe this didn't even make it to the news in sweden.

    this is so sad.

..... you can thank European motherfuckers for colonizing Asia and making it a homophoebic culture, where before it was free loving and had its own will.

For one with such talent its a shame for such an event. Rest in peace.

I, along with many people who wrote about Leslie grew up listening to his music watching his movies. I can't believe he will no longer be with us. My hearts are torn for the fact that he will be gone forever. As I watch the news covering stories about Leslie I always asked Why? Why does he have to do something so silly. Death will not solve any probs. But than again I don't think anyone will understand the pain and suffer he is going through. I am very very sad to hear that how is no longer here. Leslie will always be in my heart. My heart goes out to his long time lover Mr Tong. I can see that he is going through alot of pain from this tragic.

    Miss You!

Wish you peace wherever you are.

Thanks for being out as a gay role model in the asian society,

    Good bye!

I am sooo sad too. I ended up making a website for him. It's odd. He was such a huge figure in my childhood and I always thought he would be around. Losing that felt really strange. I just ended up taking a lot of photos, because suddenly I decided to go to the memorial and decided to go to the funeral. It's not really like me... the thing's become a huge art project for me. Hope you have time to have a look.
