Roger Ebert - wrong!

Roger EbertRoger Ebert's review of Laurel Canyon has two glaring mistakes:
- Natasha McElhone's character is the one who drives Christian Bale's character home, not the other way around (which is what he writes).
- Ebert compares Kate Beckinsale's overachieving MD-Ph.D. candidate character to Ally Sheedy's character in High Art, Laurel Canyon director Lisa Chodolenko's first feature. Wrong wrong wrong: Ally Sheedy's character is a heroin addicted artist whose lifestyle entices an up and coming book editor, played with a touch of the naif by Radha Mitchell.

How much is he playing attention? He's the leading film critic for the populace, if not for my tastes or yours, and he's getting the facts wrong? I don't know about that...

That's my attitude. My issue with Ebert is that he's the most visible, and, therefore, I hold him to a higher standard.

sad as it is, i don't think this sort of thing is uncommon. i've noticed the local critic on npr is CONSTANTLY reporting facts wrong, pronouncing names wrong or, on special occations, changing the genders of actors. if we want to be charitable, we can say "oh gee, they see so many movies. it must be so hard to keep things straight." but, really, that's a crock of shit. give me the job, i'll at least get the facts right.
