City Hall Academy

Anyone who has walked around City Hall has seen the beautiful Tweed Courthouse, recently restored to it's glory. Mayor Bloomberg has decided to put a school in there, as well as the Department of Education's headquarters. The school is to be called City Hall Academy, though I've heard Tweed Academy as well, and students at the third grade level from two Manhattan schools will be visiting for two week intervals. The plan is still confusing to me, but makes sense since it's from Bloomby. The official press release on the opening of City Hall Academy. Bloomberg's original press release last year stating his intentions about the Tweed Courthouse.

A gallery of pictures inside the Tweed Courthouse, which also doubles as a way to get kids thinking about geometry.

The restoration of the courthouse was widely praised, but people aren't sure if the Mayor is handling the building's use properly.

I know, what's also interesting is that the school is called City Hall Academy as well as Tweed Academy - like they can't make up their mind whether to reference the physical location (but then reference one of the most corrupt New Yorkers) or reference that it's under the grip of City Hall (which ain't no picnic either).

a school? interesting. you know, with all the possible associations with the name Tweed, I'm surprised people still use it at all.
