Lesbians Against Bush

The ever-astute gay and lesbian voting population has decided against bombing Iraq. According to the gay newspaper Washington Blade, 56% of gays oppose war, compared to 35% of str8 people. Instead these gays would prefer to have a homophobic tyrant (that's putting it lightly) rule an oppressed people, both sexually and politically. It kinda reminds me of what the Independent Gay Forum remarked on how Queers for Palestine is a mockery of gay rights. If you're worried about gay people, Iraq and Palestine aren't exactly the pink places of paradise in the Mideast, while Israel has a strong tradition of protecting sexual minorities.

Anyway, I'm not making much sense right now and will make a better argument on the subject later. Just wanted to drop this in the forum to get my mind off it. And to see how these link things work.

seriously- it's not like saddam is exactly queer friendly. it's probably just that's he so busy harassing the kurds that he hasn't had time to start persecuting the thriving gay and lesbian scene in baghdad. There's also a possiblity that he's into some weird gay arab dominance and submission thing- i wouldn't be surprised.
