With my boyfriend

Would you buy this car? One of my favorite commercials is an ad for a Kia Spectra, where the female driver goes through many different boyfriends and phases (hippie boyfriend, hippie clothing; yuppie boyfriend, yuppie clothing), her dog is a puppy in the first scenes, older later on, to further show the passage of time. All the dudes are duds, but the Kia (and the dog) keeps it going on. It's silly and makes it seem like women will subvert their personalities for guys (as far as I know, this does happen, if far being from ideal), but the irony of the Tom Tom Club's "Genius of Love" lyrics "I'm in heaven...with my boyfriend" run underneath these moments of the woman realizing these guys are losers nicely undercuts "The Rules"-like nature of it. It's catchy and basically a chick movie in a commercial. Produced by the independent agency, David and Goliath, click here to view by agreeing, choosing Kia, and selecting the "Boyfriend" commercial. Dennis Mahoney at the morning news thinks it's a dumb ad, but he's a dude.

A strange thing just happened. My company did an email blast to CEOs of target companies. The admin for Progressive Insurance responded to my email, her name is Cheryl Colburn. That must be where they get some of the names of their insurance ad charachters. The name sounded familiar, did a search, found this page.

  • Heh. I got here through a Google search trying to find this actress. Isn't the internet wonderful?

I believe I recently spotted her as the girl in a Taco Bell commercial that wishes her boyfriend had bought her fajitas.

I found out who Stacey was this past fall (2002) and have been waiting to see more of her on the net since. I have never seen someone on T.V. and had such a response or attraction. Its not like she is some hyped up Hollywood princess. There is just something about her. Something magical happens to me when I see her. I know that sounds weird and maybe even a little "creepy" to some people, but its the trueth. I am infatuated by a woman I have never met. Her website is a joke. I can not believe that Letterman or Jay didn't have her on their show, when the Kia commercial was so popular. Those guys should know to strike while the irons hot. Hope to see more of Stacey and also that she becomes a BIG star if that is what she wants. Pulling for you in Wisconsin Stacey!

"Hmm...so in other words "Cheryl Colburn" isn't a real customer for Progressive, therefore Progressive is falsely advertising its customers....nice way to get business through lying."

  • Sorry I haven't been keeping up on the site. Been kinda busy. The Progressive Insurance ad "Cheryl Colburn" is in heavy rotation right now. Not as cool as the Kia ad. Haven't heard anything from Cheryl, her agent, or her publicist lately, although I had a few e-mails from the publicist early on, and 2 emails from the agent. One said,"We'll think about giving you stuff." The second said, "Here's her website (scowley.com)."

www.staceyscowley.com is still parked at godaddy.com and has been since April at least.

And thats the news from Lake Woebegon.

I believe she also appeard (~2 seconds) in a Glade undercounter air deoderizer spot, mid-2003.

  • Tim

Can't get her off of my mind, damn she's hot!

  • Anonymous

I have to agree......she is extremely magnetic, I guess thats why I'm here...WOW!

  • Bj

Stacey Scowley, is beautiful and I would give anything to meet her..I need to find more info on her and can't seem to.

  • Jen

Actually, Bryan, most, if not all, advertising agencies create characters for their commercials...Progressive is not falsely advertising if the services that the commercial are talking about do exist.

  • Her main site is www.scowley.com, but there is a fan site called staceyscowley.net. We've tried to get with Stacey or her agent, but they must be busy enough that they can't talk to us.
